It's Monday, go figure. On the bright side, I just sold some of my atrocious 90's music on e-bay! It may not have raked in the serious dough, but at least I'm up $1.99 and down some worthless CDs. w00t!
And before you cast judgment on my terrible music selecting abilities, please realize that I was heavily influenced by others as a child and had the strange ability to pick out one-hit wonders or in this case, no-hit wonders. What talent, I tell you.
Last week when I saw Into the Wild, I didn't quite understand why I was so moved. I didn't know why I was in tears when the credits rolled and I certainly couldn't verbalize those emotions to make any sense outside my head. It wasn't until today that I finally put two and two together when I was chatting with my friend, Kat. As we discussed over our sushi dinner, she said it too hit close to home for her, except for different reasons. While she saw her brother in the main character, Chris (a.k.a Alex Supertramp), I saw a little bit of myself. While I was never quite so extreme in the measures I took to find myself - I do know at times that I was just as self-destructive.
If you haven't heard of Into the Wild, put it at the top of your list and then stop reading if you don't want any sort of spoiler. But if you don't mind a few minor movie details then I won't mind telling you that the plot revolves around a college graduate, aged 22 who sets out on his own to not only discover life, but to discover himself. Gee - sound familiar?
While it was intriguing to watch this boy's adventure, knowing that I saw myself in him, it was Alex Supertramp's final thought that really touched my soul - "Happiness is only real when shared."
Anyways, after you wipe up the cheese from this post, take the time to watch the trailer. Then run out and rent the video or add it to your Netflix cue - STAT!
I've been addicted to the Style channel lately. Specifically this fancy little show called Clean House. It takes ridiculous pack-rats and breaks them of their habits by forcing them to sell their shit. Easy enough. I had watched so much of it that Neicy Nash was starting to convince me that I needed to do a bit more cleaning on the home front. Even though I had previously organized my belongings not too long ago, I wasn't sold on the idea of more organization until D offered to help me sell stuff on eBay!! OMG?! Why didn't I think of this before? So now I've gone nuts pulling out all the crap I had that was too good to give away, but never really knew how to sell it. I understand that any idiot can do eBay, but without someone to show me the ropes regarding the whole shipping and handling and what price to sell an item for, that whole land of online markets kind of scared me. Now that I have help, I can't stop packing crap up! Who neeeeeeeds all this?? Not me!
Anyways, that huge story about nothing brings me to today's 90's Music Monday. Found this little gem of a CD while literally cleanin' out my closet. No, no, I wouldn't be that literal and play Eminem (plus, I don't think that's a 90's song anyways. I could be wrong, but I'm too lazy to look it up.) Here's a little Jewel instead....
Don't like that one? Okay, fine. I found this among my collection as well. Ew, who was I??
Just thought the title was fitting for today and my mood. If you're not a hoodie, then this dedication might not make much sense.
In honor of Valentine's Day, I bring you one of the only songs (and movies) that still gives me chills. I'm not saying I'd play it at wedding-esque function, but I'll mope over in solitude and maybe even wipe away a tear or two if I'm in that particular sort of mood.
On with it already, I bring you...Whitney Houston - I will always love you. Happy Valentine's Day from Whitney, me, and Kev to you!
In honor of the start of my 12 week Vox Fitness Challenge, I bring you this sexy 90's hit.
Don't thank me, thank Right Said Fred.
Maybe as a motivator to look fabulous, I'll promise to perform my own 'I'm Too Sexy' version of this video at the end of my 12 week challenge. Or I could spare you all and nix that idea all together. :)
Word of mouth is important and I feel like I'm doing my part by sharing it here. This was sent to me by one of my friends at UNC - School of Public Health. If anyone would know, she would.
Do you have your vaccination? Circle, circle. Dot, dot...
Slippin' it in at the 11th hour, here's your 90's Music Monday. Enjoy!
So over the holidays, I managed to watch VH1's 100 Greatest Songs of the 90's. Not only did it give me at least 99 more excellent post ideas but it also brought to light some songs that I missed out on during my childhood. For example, The Humpty Dance a la Digital Underground. I don't know how and I don't know why, but I hadn't really heard this song until it popped up as #65 on the countdown.
However, since it's debut on the countdown, I have come across this song not once, but TWICE. It felt like enough of a sign from Mr. Humpty himself, so I present to you on my first 90's Music Monday of 2008: The Humpty Dance.
ps. Don't mind the intro of this vid where it says '1989'. In fact, completely ignore it. It was on the VH1 90's countdown, so it's officially a 90's song. Take it up with VH1 if you have issues. kthxbai!
